Before you close this saying this is all a scam, there’s no way you can make extra money just like that do read on. I’m not saying you will necessarily make more in terms of salary, that’s down to you. I am going to take you through a series of steps to free up your existing income, and give you more disposable cash to spend on the things you really want to be buying with your hard earned salary.

A bit about myself and my situation:

I used to spend loads of money on crap. Actual rubbish. I would waste money on coffee that I didn’t drink all of, random bits and bobs that I can’t even remember. My partner was even worse, buying six of the same tops in different colours “just in case”. Expensive shoes and underwear, and spending all her money on shopping each weekend.

It was time for a major change in our finances after a few months together when we realised that we wanted to travel more often. We wanted to really live our lives to the fullest. Drinking in a bar every weekend and watching my bank account completely empty just after being paid was not cutting it!

I work in a regular job, earning around £32000 before taxes. Whilst putting this book together I was only earning £19000 when self employed, the increase is due to a change in job. I have made all the savings whilst being on the lower salary. I have a partner who works for a lower salary of around £11,000. It’s a choice and she is a lot happier looking after the house and doing everything she wants to do rather than having a stressful job.

We are in our mid and late twenties, both of us have spent time travelling before we met each other and seen a lot of the world. We have no children, but have plans to make them part of our lives in the future.
We do not receive any hand outs from parents, relatives or friends. We have no debts, apart from the credit card which is payed off every month in full (more on that later).

We live in a rented house as we move around every year or so, buying just does not suit our lifestyle at the moment. The house has three bedrooms, a nice garden front and back and is in an idyllic village in the countryside. Work is not too far by car, around 20 minutes through beautiful country lanes with no traffic.

I have spare income, enough to pay for us to travel on long haul holidays three times a year. I can afford several European weekend breaks, visits to friends and family all over the country and UK camping when the weather is good.

We have an iPad, some nice furniture, flat screen TV, all mod cons that you need to live a comfortable life. There are savings in the bank for when we are ready to settle in one place and buy a house together.

How do you afford all of that with the day to day runnings of everything? Well read on and you will find out my tried and tested tips to find spare money in your existing income.

First of all, before you do anything else, go and get a piece of paper andwrite down all of your income. If you are self employed use your records from the latest tax return. If you have debts that are unsecured unfortunately this will not work as effectively.

By writing it down in the format below, you can really start to analyse where your money is going. You are starting your journey to having more disposable income. Stick with it and good luck!
